Baby Adoption

By Jimmy Sturo

For most married couples, having a child can bring much joy and happiness. Unfortunately, some married couples, due to a number of reasons, are unable to have a child of their own.

However, this does not mean that these married couples cannot experience the joy of being parents. There is an option they have that would allow them to become the loving parents they want to be, which is to adopt. The good news is that today, the process of adopting a baby has developed so that qualified people can adopt without the stresses and "surprises" that have characterized the adoption process in the past.

Adopting a baby today

The adoption process today assures adoptive parents that safeguards are put in place to protect the interest of the child they are adopting. However, it is still a good idea for couples to arm themselves with information on the process of adopting a baby.

There are basically two types of adoption - open and closed. In an open adoption, contact between the child and his biological parents or parent is allowed. Closed adoptions, on the other hand, do not allow such contact. Traditionally, adoptive parents choose to avail of a closed adoption to avoid any "hassles" that contact between the child they adopt and his biological parents may cause. However, in recent years, an increasing number of couples have availed of an open adoption, as they see the benefit of providing a child with a support system in which there are more people from which he can get the love and support that he needs.

Nowadays, the process of adopting a baby gives married couples the assurance that they can have a stable future with their new child. However, it would still be a good idea for couples who wish to adopt to arm themselves with information on the adoption process because doing so can help them pick the right type of adoption that would serve the best interest of the child.
