What are the different types of adoptions?

Adoption is the act of legally and permanently assuming custody of an individual with a parent other than his biological parents. Here are the different types of adoptions:

1. Fost-adopt - the child is being brought under the care of trained and skilled foster parents.

2. Infant adoption - the child is being adopted during infancy.

3. International adoption - for instance an American adopts a child from a foreign country.

4. Waiting child adoption - the term refers to adopting a non-infant child. They are most commonly toddlers.

5. Step child adoption - the child is legally adopted by his stepparent.

6. Older child adoption - any child over two years of age fall under this category.

7. Relative adoption - the child is legally adopted by his kin.

8. Special needs adoption - the term refers to adopting children who have physical, mental, and emotional abnormalities.

9. Military and overseas adoption - any child is being adopted by military personnel or overseas workers.

10. Adult adopting - this term refers to any individual who wish to adopt an older adult which is normally considered a senior citizen.
