What are my options for adopting a pet?

Answered By Andrea Quagmire

The experience you have in adopting a pet at different types of shelters can be vastly different. Take the needed time to do your due diligence. The website of your local animal rescue groups may provide some feedback. Here are the three most organizations where you might find a pet to adopt:

Open Access Animal Shelters - take in all stray animals and are usually county or city shelters.

Humane Societies - are private facilities. Some provide open access while others are limited.

Foster Groups - are generally volunteer foster parents who don't have a physical location.
