Half-ton teenager in a life and death struggle with his weight

 

Billy Robbins, 19, who at his heaviest weighed 60 stone, had the radical procedure in a desperate attempt to reduce his weight and save his heart from giving out. He ballooned as a child because his mother Barbara could not stop feeding him enormous amounts of junk food. She ended up giving him 8000 calories a day – almost four times the recommended daily intake for a man – because she felt unable to turn down his demands. Billy, from Houston, Texas, had the operation to slash five stones of fat cut off his stomach to prepare for a further phase of surgery, to have a gastric by-pass. Initially he was too fat for doctors to carry out the procedure, which would shrink his stomach so he could only eat small amounts of food. Doctors said he needed the operations because his heart would soon give out under the enormous strain placed upon it. His battle to save himself from an early death is documented in a Channel 4 film, Half Ton Son, to be broadcast next Monday at 10pm.

The citizens of US adopted approximately 291 children from Philippines in the year 2008. The children who were available for adoption were of age 11-20 months, children with special needs and also many older children. Prior to adoption these children were residing in orphanages and in foster care. The family interested in Philippines adoption has to follow certain rules and the laws regarding the adoption. There are separate rules for the child who may be adopted and also for the parent who are interested in adoption.
