Emmanuel, the adopted son of Children First Foundation boss Moira Kelly, wowed Ronan Keating, Spice Girl Mel Brown, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Guy Sebastian with his heartfelt performance of the John Lennon classic Imagine on last night’s audition show. Emmanuel and his brother Ahmed were adopted from Iraq, both suffering limb deficiencies as a result of chemical warfare. They were abandoned at an orphanage and rescued by Ms Kelly, who is also the guardian of the once-conjoined Bangladeshi twins, Krishna and Trishna. Emmanuel said it was “more than magic” to be on X Factor”. “Words could not describe what I was feeling on that stage,” he said. “When I got up and started singing, there was nothing else. Adrenalin just took over. It was just a blur.” Emmanuel said he believes he had a gift. “Singing is what I love doing and singing is the only thing I want to do,” he said. “I know plenty of singers that are 50 times better than I am, it is just they chose not to follow that path. For the past few years I have been in and out of Thailand… it wasn’t just the amazing food and culture that pulled me back, but my love for the thai-burma border area and the people I met there. I’ve been volunteering with various organisations in Mae Hong Son, Mae Sot, and Ban Tha Song Yang, with Burmese, Thai, Shan, and Karen ethnic minorities. Giving service is and will always be when I feel most at peace and humble. If you’re in Thailand and want a different experience, do some research into volunteer work.. there are PLENTY of opportunities where you DON’T have to pay ! Also, you may think that you’re useless to these people but I can say with some confidence “You don’t even know how much you have to give!!” Thanks to a kind soul in the states, I was able to buy lots of good quality educational and sports equipment for youth groups in the refugee camps, and Safe Haven Orphanage (safehavenorphanage.org Another contact in the UK held a fundraising night and the money he’s raised will go towards buying some guitars and materials for a school in Mae Sot run by an ex-political prisoner who is a hero in the Burmese Community. If you visit Mae Sot, please visit Knowledge Zone and ask for Thet Naing. Donate what you can.. teach at the school or give money/materials. The woman decides to leave her child in the back seat of an expensive automobile with a handwritten note imploring the finder to care for and love the baby. However, the car is stolen. When the two thieves discover the child, they leave him on the street. The Little Tramp (Charlie Chaplin) finds the baby. Neil Dsouza is an engineer and education reformer. As the founder of the “Teach A Class” project, he has initiated several educational projects with orphanages around Asia, currently focusing on Mongolia. After leaving his life as an engineer at Cisco in San Francisco, he has followed his passion to support orphanages in accessing education resources. Neil believes that money and infrastructure are not always necessary to solve education problems, but instead, we need to innovate with existing resources to identify worthwhile cost effective solutions. Grounded on this approach, Neil has started creating education hotspots in orphanages in Indonesia and Mongolia. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
