Can you answer ShauneeBaby’s question about Adoption?:

my older brother is adopted,he has been since before he was born or whatever. Anyway, he is 17 and it turns out he’s bipolar. When my parents adopted him, it was kind of a closed adoption, they weren’t allowed to know my brothers parents’ last names and stuff. now, since being bipolar is often inherited, is there any way to find your parents through closed adoption without any fees or anything?

Adoption Feedback: not really. especially not free. also- the medical history that comes in a closed adoption is usually falsified.

the one thing he can do is register for free with issr online. that’s free.

Adoption Feedback: AB is right – often medical history is incomplete – and sadly sometimes falsified.
But I’ll add here where to start the search.
Just a warning though – the search should be agreed upon by the adoptee – as adoptees have no say in their adoption – and they do tend to like having control at least over whether they wish to search or not. Some adoptees just don’t want to search – and it should be up to them.
If he doesn’t want to – do not push it – please.

First – add your details to the registries here

Check for information on your state records here –

Check here for search help – and links to search angels –

And check here for any support – it’s the best online forum for adoptees I’ve found –

All the very best with the search.

    Adoption Feedback: Bi-polar, huh?

Is that what they’re calling it these days? I think it’s just ‘Adoptionitis’ that’s caught up with him. Living a life that’s a lie makes MANY adoptees sick, drug/alcohol addicted, or violent.

He needs to find his family! His history! His story!

Have him (and your parents) do some reading:

    Adoption studies:

    Books:
The Primal Wound by Nancy Verrier
Lost and Found: the Adoption Experience AND
Journey of the Adopted Self: A Quest for Wholeness both by Betty Jean Lifton
The Adopted break Silence by Jean Paton
The Girls Who Went Away by Ann Fessler
    Adoption: Uncharted Waters,by David Kirschner
Being Adopted: The Lifelong Search for Self by David Brodzinsky

I think you would have to notify the adoption agency. My brother and myself were both adopted and my brother had muscular dystrophy. Our adopted parents didn’t find out until he was 8 and since this is a disease that the birth mother carries they had to notify the adoption agency who then notified his birth mother. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help I was only 12 at the time.
