Megan, the girl we are adopting, was born in Malacatan, San Marcos. We have run into a delay because our agency’s contacts in Guatemala have had issues getting Megan’s original birth certif. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Adoption Feedback: Contact the Catholic Church in Malacatan, San Marcos, They should be able to help you ,as she was no doubt baptized in the local church in Malacatan..
Adoption Feedback: Have you personally investigated why they are having issues getting the original birth certificate. So many kids in Guatamala are stolen or trafficked for the profitable adoption business.
Do your homework so that you have a clear conscience and don’t rely or trust that others are doing things ethically – yes, even the agencies who are taking your $$$$ that fuel this child trafficking
Adoption Feedback: As you are probably aware, there are many, many changes going on in the Guatemala adoption process. They have implemented a new process of obtaining birth certificates which is causing delays in many cities.
It sounds like if they are in the process of getting a new BC that your case has already exited PGN and there for the review process and scrutiny is over and the case has been deemed by Guatemala AND the USA as a valid adoption. Many people that don’t understand the process assume that all adoptions in Guatemala are fradulent. That is NOT the case. The media grabs onto a few bad stories and makes it appear as if the entire system is bad.
There are much, much better sources of information specific to Guatemalan adoption than asking here. Talk to your agency and check out other forums, such as guatadopt.com or adoption.com.

Adoption Feedback: i have a heck of a lot of research on guatemalan adoption agencies, if you’d be willing to post your agency, i’d be willing to post any stuff I have on it.
I wouldn’t trust them and I sure as hell wouldn’t be adopting from a country who has suspended its adoption due to child trafficking and falsified document reports.
They can’t get a birth certificate….waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to “red flag” for me. Are you comfortable with facing the idea that “megan” was stolen and sold to the agency so that they could make money off of americans looking to adopt? How would you explain to your child when she wants to know more about her adoption that it was illegal? There are grave ethical concerns that need to be addressed and I urge you to address them in your own situation.

back off people….sometimes bc’s are delayed for silly reasons like the book that bc is to be located in was sent out for binding. this is not a highly technical system here. don’t question the validity of her adoption just because you don’t “get” guatemala’s record keeping system.
you may want to post this on some other forums that have an active guatemala page. maybe you will find more help if you can find a family that also has a child from this region.
