Adoption Feedback: Definitely an American first name and Chinese middle. She will be living here so she would fit in better but she’d have something to represent her culture as well.

My little sister was adopted from Chine when she was 9 and my parents renamed her Jennifer… a VERY American name. They also gave her two American middle names. She did not mind at all. So I say American name, but perhaps it would be better to keep her Chinese name as middle name.

Adoption Feedback: My friend adopted from China and gave the baby an American first name and a Chinese middle name, to honor the baby’s heritage. I think it is a beautiful gesture. You are doing a wonderful thing!

Here are some ideas for a Chinese middle name:
Jia “beautiful”
Jiao “dainty, lovely”
Jiayi “household fitting”

Adoption Feedback: Go with an American first name… it will simply make life easier. Maybe you want to go with an American name that is often associated with Asian-Americans (e.g., Shelby). As for the middle name, you can either go with a traditional Asian name or go with a more American-sounding name that is also often associated with Asians, without overtly being a Chinese name (e.g., Lee).

Adoption Feedback: I think you should have her middle name as her Chinese name. I’m not sure if she’s born or not but has she been given a name? Perhaps you can do something like Fiona Xiao-Li if her given name was Xiao Li (that’s my name, minus my last name).
