Can you answer D.T.’s question about Adoption?:

I once watched a tv show where people were adopting children from Russia. They explained that if the children weren’t adopted, they would have to go to workhouses and things like that. My dad’s family is from Russia so it would be a first choice for international adoption. I was just wondering what the basic price differences for the entire experience with american and international adoptions. thanks
ok. everyone is taking this the wrong way. im not going to “search for the cheapest price” for a child. i was just wondering how much of a price difference it is to adopt in america or russia. thats all. the price wont effect my choice in ANY way. i was just wondering.

Adoption Feedback: You could hook up with the lady who asked a question about where to ‘browse’ for children.

You could shop together and compare ‘prices’ It’ll be a fun girly day out for you both ;)

    Alternatively move to Russia

    Adoption Feedback: Prices? For children?

Oh no, adoption isn’t human trafficking. Children aren’t treated as commodities. How dare anyone suggest that. Psh.

    Adoption Feedback: Depends.

According to the US State Department website, typical costs for a Russian adoption is $20-30K. Remember the Russian process requires two trips to Russia.

For US adoption, it depends on what route you choose. Since you are talking about older children needing homes, foster adoption has little or no cost to the adoptive parents. US infant adoption costs can be comparable to most international programs.

ETA: Ana: And children growing up in orphanages don’t need families? Children who age out of orphanages aren’t in any better position to survive in society than children who age out of foster care.

Adoption Feedback: oh don’t pay attention to all the rude people on here with nothing better to do than vent at you (most of them because they can’t deal with the fact that they gave their kid up) On the issue of your question, It would be much more expensive to deal with a foreign adoption, and much more red tape. You also can’t get a baby because for the first year the birth mother can change her mind. I would try getting in touch with american agencies and telling them you prefer a russian child if they get one.

    Adoption Feedback: Hi Danica,

Unfortunately people on YA tend to attack rather than assume the questions has genuine intent.

It really depends on what kind of American adoption: private infant domestic or foster care.

Foster care is pretty much free, while the fees incurred for private and international can run quite high.

I would suggest calling an international adoption agency that handles Russian adoptions and getting the correct info right from them.

    Good luck.

Adoption Feedback: Please follow this link to the Russian adoption information page of The Cradle, one of the most reputable adoption agencies in Illinois. Even if you live on the other side of the world, it will help you understand the fees involved in this type of adoption.

Update: Here’s a link to a comparison of the domestic and international fees of The Cradle:

Update: Isn’t it interesting that I provided a direct answer to the question and received 7 thumbs down? Hmmm.

Adoption Feedback: your bottom line is still about cost.

I cannot believe how rude some of the people are on this forum! Who is governing this site. Pay attention to the posts and discipline appropriately! Buying children? Who is buying children? Fees have to be paid for agencies, orphanges and to ENSURE THAT THE CHILDREN FOR ADOPTION ARE NOT ONES THAT HAVE BEEN SOLD! If you are going to post information at least make sure that what you post has some probative value and or is correct.

Adoption Feedback: I thought it was illegal to buy children…?
