Can you answer CP’s question about Adoption?:

I’m curious, people mention adoption disruption but do people really know what that is and why it’s different from an adoption dissolution?

    What is disruption?

The term disruption is used to describe an adoption process that ends after the child is placed in an adoptive home and before the adoption is legally finalized, resulting in the child’s return to (or entry into) foster care or placement with new adoptive parents.

    What is dissolution?

The term dissolution is used to describe an adoption that ends after it is legally finalized, resulting in the child’s return to (or entry into) foster care or placement with new adoptive parents.

The Website also gives statistics on the numbers of disruptions and dissolutions that occur, as well as the reasons. Very interesting topic.

Adoption Feedback: Laurie is right. People tend to use the word disruption for both situations, though.

Adoption Feedback: There seems to be an increase in adoption disruptions as of late. Many of these children, adopted internationally are needing to find new homes.
