This thoughtful and profound movie should be a “must see” for all high school-aged students and anyone who has faced or is facing the difficult choices that come with with unwanted or unexpected pregnancy. It is a moving film that touches the heart and opens the mind to the gift of adoption to all involved.

This is an incredibly powerful film, telling the story for those who cannot tell it themselves. Ms. Durnin has greatly empowered these faceless women and highlighted their pain, their incredible personal strength and their ultimate triumph in extraordinarily difficult situations. Very moving, very instructive. This should be required viewing for every mother facing the difficult circumstance of an unwanted pregnancy. One of the most moving films I have ever seen…I recommend it to everyone I know thinking of adoption.

The Giving is truly an amazing DVD giving deep personal insight into the lives of six birthmothers, some who placed very recently, all the way through to a woman who placed 30 years ago (and still crys when she remembers seeing her daughter in the hospital).
For any one involved in adoption – birth mother, birth father, adoptive parents, social workers – this is a great documentary to watch. I’ve seen it several times over, and love watching.
There are also 5 minute extra interviews with the birthmothers, and you get some really candid insight into these birthmother’s lives, and what it took from them, and gave to them, to place their child up for adoption.
A easy buy…I wish there were more like this.
