Sorry, I wanted to mention that I am also an Ethiopian and want to adopt an Ethiopian child someday ;)

This is really cool and so wonderful! God bless you and your new baby. If you come to Boston area, there is a community of families who adopted Ethiopian children. It’s good because, you’ll learn from eachothers experiances and keep up with Ethiopian culture. Please let me know if you want to know more about it.

Girum is a cool little man. He is going to be so tight when he’s older. I love that little kid. He’s HILARIOUS. He should be king.

Thanks for posting this. My husband and I are adopting from Ethiopia this year and we are seeking advice and thoughts from those that have already been through the journey. What a beautiful child. Have you had any difficulties?

I have read many articles or news report by Barbara Demick, she seemed to report mostly negative news of China. There may be cases in which the babies were taken away, but I believe these are the exceptions rather than the norm. Everytime you read an article written by Demick on China, you will get a very negative impression of China.

Most people have no concept of the nightmarish pain and corruption in adoption. Mothers whose children were taken unlawfully by adoption agencies and attorneys are censored in the U.S., banned from conservative websites, attacked on our own websites, libeled, slandered – anything to silence and intimidate us. The U.S. Department of Justice has known for over 30 years that young and poor parents civil rights are trammeled in adoption proceedings, but does nothing to stop it.

  17. asynkronos on June 9th, 2010 7:01 am

NO money should change hands in adoptions, ever. Infant adoption is a multibillion dollar industry in the U.S. Google E.J. Graff’s article “The Lie We Love” Graff is at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis. They found that nearly all international adoptions are corrupt and the children are being taken unlawfully, NOT abandoned. The same is true of most U.S. infant adoptions. Google ‘Shotgun Adoption’ in the Nation. The entire adoption system is corrupt.

IT’S NOT ABOUT RITUALS IT’S ABOUT ECONOMICS.

Just as in India. The males are the bred winners. That’s how the system is – in the rural areas. Not so much in the urban areas.

  21. dangerouslytalented on June 9th, 2010 9:16 am

    To varying degrees.

    systematic*! :*

  25. medallish on June 9th, 2010 11:34 am

Isn’t that true for most governments?

  26. TurboDally on June 9th, 2010 12:24 pm

Money isn’t the only issue here, how do you think a mother feels when her baby is snatched from her…

  27. TurboDally on June 9th, 2010 12:49 pm

F*£$^ing ironic, they don’t like female kids, and yet they themselves look for a female to spend their life with/relationship. Sickening :

  28. SireStefan on June 9th, 2010 1:31 pm

I guess “breeder” can be a job description in china

  29. dangerouslytalented on June 9th, 2010 1:37 pm

    China is riddled with corruption.

The whole system needs to be overhauled, but never will.
