Three-legged Chihuahua gets new home at Pet Orphans of Southern California. Pet Orphans of Southern California is one of the oldest active HUMANE ORGANIZATIONS in the Greater Los Angeles area with a private shelter. At our shelter facility located in Van Nuys, California, an average of 60 dogs and 30 cats are housed until they can be placed with new guardians. Pet Orphans has facilitated adoptions for thousands of cats and dogs since our inception in 1973. The majority of the dogs and cats at Pet Orphans have been transferred from local city and county shelters and are anxiously awaiting a new home. Pet Orphans is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of companion animal welfare. We are committed to decreasing the number of animals euthanized annually in city and county shelters by focusing our efforts in these five areas: Rescue — Saving dogs and cats in need and providing them with care and shelter while they await adoption Adoption — Responsible matching of homeless dogs and cats with suitable adoptive guardians Medical — Low cost or free spay/neuter and vaccination services and financial assistance for severe medical need Education — Teaching responsible humane pet guardianship and dog bite prevention with free presentations and handout materials to all age groups at public and private schools, community service organizations, Boys & Girls Clubs, Women’s Clubs and many others. Nominated for Best Documentary at the 2006 GLAAD Media Awards, WE ARE DAD is the story of a gay couple who are pediatric AIDS nurses that become foster parents to infants who are HIV positive, and decide to challenge the State of Florida’s law banning adoption by gay people. The film follows the lives of a most unusual family: Two white HIV negative gay men and their family of five kids. Four of them have AIDS, three are black, two come from a backwater cult in Oregon, and one of the children has been in the middle of one of the most hotly debated issues in this country: gay adoption. We follow these delightful men through the highs and lows of their 18 year struggle to raise this amazing family. While the facts may be grim, theirs is a family full of joy and laughter, bustling with activity, while a well-honed sense of irony keeps them all healthy, happy and immune from those who would have them disbanded. People are constantly surprised by the amount of laughter and joy that comes out of the theatres presenting this film. We invite you to join the ranks that have called this film a wonderfully life affirming experience. These two gay men have raised their five HIV positive children for the last 17 years, but after being everything to these kids, the two dads are not able to adopt them. Why? Because the State of Florida has a complete ban on gay adoption. Filled with humor and heart, this movie is sure entertain, amuse and enlighten as it explores all points of view and

Stupid bigots! Two spirits make very good parents! Their view does not belong on this land (and its imported)! Love is a two way street that is never evil hate is always evil! Go run behind god if you want but how could a loving god hate any love?

  3. msscott73 on July 17th, 2010 1:10 am

Why? I know many heterosexuals raised by straight parents who are filled with hate. These Dads were raising African-American Children who were born HIV Poz. Do you know how many HIV negative African-American kids were lost in the system in FL, NY, IL and many other states in the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and 90s? I do… It is better for them to have two men who have a history of caring for kids society don’t notice & makes little effort to care about.

I think you are nothing more than a closet homosexual, thus the anger. You are having trouble accepting the inevitable.

  6. underwearmodel1928 on July 17th, 2010 3:26 am

Anyone that leaves a disparaging comment ridiculing an entire group of people in an attempt to humiliate anyone has done nothing but demonstrate their inability to represent their heterosexually effectively and by proxy have outted themselves as homosexuals. Now, there is nothing wrong with being a homosexual and sooner you come to grip with this new identity, the happier you will be. I would also like to point out, scientifically speaking, most gays were never molested, this is simply not fact

If you were raised in an institution with no love whatsoever, you’d be thinking differently.

  13. laleebee on July 17th, 2010 7:26 am

If you were raised by gay men, you wouldn’t be filled with hate.

  14. suspectdevice7 on July 17th, 2010 7:46 am

As a child I would rather have been raised in an institution than by gay men! I think any normal bloke would feel the same!

  15. joeymorans on July 17th, 2010 8:21 am

Whats ironic is if Jesus was around today with his 12 apostles the “Christian” conservatives would hate him to them he is gay.
“Christian” conservatives are as dangerous as the Taliban in Afghanistan and have ruined Florida by voting for inept do nothing dummies aslong as they are anti gay

  18. natchofpceup on July 17th, 2010 9:18 am

why do the gay clips here in youtube always have one opinion of a religious person?? religion is NOT explanation! we have to seek the answers for ourselves! RESPECT WHO IS NOT RELIGIOUS! i’m really sick of it! LOVE IS LOVE! WE (GAYS) ARE NOT KILLING ANYBODY! stupid hipocrites!

  19. denislane1 on July 17th, 2010 9:49 am

Amen! Granted the science of life still belongs to a man and a woman, in one fashion or another, but the role of nuturing life or loving one another belongs to any man or woman, or any combination therin, who find themselves the strength and compassion required to truly love. God LOVES, even gays.

I’ve always been for family…any type of family…as long as it’s a functional family with a parent system that instills crucial values and lessons in the children, I’m all for it. My friend makes a great mother…and she’s a single bisexual in Arkansas. We won the battle against her ex-husband…he said she was an unfit mother. Well, excuse her because she’s bi…at least she doesn’t have a crack problem.

  21. ttaylortex on July 17th, 2010 10:12 am

Yes, We all have to agree We are Dad is an amazing story and we need individuals like you telling others that they need to see this amazing documentary. Without your support their will never be a change on how we view this family.

Power and support to gay moms and dads. People raising people. Simple as that.

People do revert, its rare that the human body creates the antibodies, but it does happen, unfortunatly the antibodies die after the virus does.

  25. nonchemale on July 17th, 2010 12:05 pm

Fascinating video. Why is the US so backwards in giving people the equality they deserve based on race, sexuality or serostatus? The other point is the kid who seroreverted… I don’t think this can be shown to happen scientifically and it is probably part of the error rate of the HIV test, and he was never positive to start with. But it serves to demonstrate some pretty appalling prejudices and attitudes.
